David Icke and the ‘Evil Magician’

New age charlatan

The problem with the new age concepts peddled by people like David Icke, who tell us things like “we are all infinite consciousness”, is that such canned spiritual concepts are no different from mainstream religious dogma that has been offered up for mass consumption for centuries.
Has anyone noticed that, despite the noble and ‘spiritual’ teachings of mainstream religions, and despite the fact that a majority of human beings adhere to one or other of these religions, the moral or spiritual life of human beings on this planet has NOT improved in any tangible way? In fact, you may have noticed that our collective moral compass can point in many different directions depending on who happens to be reading it. The result is a pretty immoral modern world where respect for human life is at a historical low.

The so-called ‘spiritual’ teachings of the world’s religions, including the ‘new age’, are fatally flawed because they do not teach people HOW to achieve the lofty spiritual goals or ‘transformations of consciousness’ that they preach. In fact, they tend to teach us how to NOT achieve them by urging us to keep chasing our tails by just ‘believing’.

What religions, mainstream and ‘new age’ teach is analogous to Gurdjieff’s story of the evil magician, where the evil magician, faced with the problem of his sheep escaping because they saw their fellow sheep being periodically killed and eaten, hypnotizes the sheep into believing that they are not sheep but lions, eagles and even humans. As a result, any time the sheep saw another sheep being killed for the magician’s breakfast, they no longer tried to escape because, after all, they were not sheep. In this way the evil magician maintained a compliant food source.

The point being that, when David Icke or your local priest tells you that you are “pure consciousness” or “a child of god”, and that all you have to do is recognise this to become it, they are lulling you into a false sense of spirituality. Simply telling yourself that you are spiritual or spiritually evolved or that you are ‘going to heaven’ because you believe it, achieves nothing except ensuring that you will do nothing to truly evolve because you believe you are already there.

The evil magician’s sheep were still sheep, despite what he made them believe about themselves. The only way that the sheep were ever going to have a chance of true evolution, which is by definition a spiritual evolution to something beyond the crass physicality-oriented lives we all lead, was if they were able to recognise the TRUTH of their situation: that they were mere sheep, being preyed upon by the magician, and that he was deliberately deceiving them with lofty words and notions so that he could continue to keep them in a state of stasis so that he could exploit them.

So the point is this: any human that desires to engage in the process of true and meaningful evolution must begin by taking stock of where he/she is at, of his/her limitations, biases, prejudices, wrong beliefs, personal disfunctionality and ‘issues’, ‘programs’ that he/she runs. In short, we must recognise the state of our being as IT IS, so that we can identify the flaws and blockages that prevent us from achieving those lofty states that so many charlatans tell us we have already attained, and work on those blockages to true evolution first.

That’s it, it’s the ‘work on the self’. Not so lofty perhaps, not much ‘you’re a special diamond’, but rather, you may become one, if you’re willing to face the objective reality, both within yourself and in the world ‘out there’.

Gurdjieff’s Evil Magician

“There was an evil magician. He lived deep in the mountains and the forests, and he had thousands of sheep. But the problem was that the sheep were afraid of the magician because every day the sheep were seeing that one of them was being killed for his breakfast, another was being killed for his lunch. So they ran away from the magician’s ranch and it was a difficult job to find them in the vast forest. Being a magician, he used magic.

He hypnotized all the sheep and suggested to them first of all that they were immortal and that no harm was being done to them when they were skinned, that, on the contrary, it would be very good for them and even pleasant; secondly he suggested that the magician was a good master who loved his flock so much that he was ready to do anything in the world for them; and in the third place he suggested to them that if anything at all were going to happen to them it was not going to happen just then, at any rate not that day, and therefore they had no need to think about it.

He then told different sheep…to some, “You are a man, you need not be afraid. It is only the sheep who are going to be killed and eaten, not you. You are a man just like I am.” Some other sheep were told, “You are a lion — only sheep are afraid. They escape, they are cowards. You are a lion; you would prefer to die than to run away. You don’t belong to these sheep. So when they are killed it is not your problem. They are meant to be killed, but you are the most loved of my friends in this forest.” In this way, he told every sheep different stories, and from the second day, the sheep stopped running away from the house.

They still saw other sheep being killed, butchered, but it was not their concern. Somebody was a lion, somebody was a tiger, somebody was a man, somebody was a magician and so forth. Nobody was a sheep except the one who was being killed. This way, without keeping servants, he managed thousands of sheep. They would go into the forest for their food, for their water, and they would come back home, believing always one thing: “It is some sheep who is going to be killed, not you. You don’t belong to the sheep. You are a lion — respected, honored, a friend of the great magician.”

The magician’s problems were solved and the sheep never ran away again.'”

  1. Icke sez: 'Infinite love is the only truth, everything else is illusion'! 'Human race, get up off your knees'! 'Remember who you are'! But if love is knowledge, how then can we know what's true and what's false? If the human race is on its knees, in large part due to atrocious dietary habits, then it's not as simple as 'just standing up on your feet' to undo and repair years of damage. And how can we 'remember' who we are if we can't even recall what happened yesterday, nevermind 'our true state as beautiful beings of god'? All the positive affirmations in the world can't replace the work it takes to overcome our problems rather than wish them away.

    1. I Am not an Icke Follower, but I did not interpret "Infinite love is the only truth" to be or mean "Love is Knowledge". How about "Knowledge is LOVE?" That sounds about right to me 🙂

  2. david icke in my opinion is totally tansparent and working in his way to change the world for the better. it,s easy to quote on a few topics with out having looked at what they mean and david icke goes into depth with his resurch and ideas. He has done a great deal in bringing many topics to light and what is happening now with the peoples voice is really great. it,s sad the the divition that has us all seeing our diffences and not what makes us all the same on one level is still playing out, even in the truth movement or what ever you choose to call it. it might be simplistic to some but there is something with in us all that is the same, what ever label is put on it. things are changing and it does take awarnesss of the dark and a willingness to face it for change to happen which david ickes says.

    1. If you choose to identify yourself as being the same as the conscienceless psychopaths that have destroyed this planet under the bogus “we’re all one” maxim, then be my guest.

      1. it,s like the wave and the ocean. Is the wave an individual independent of the ocean? could it exist with out the ocean? could the psychopaths be made of a different 'no-thing' that makes up everything? That,s where the union is and if everthing is filtered though the mind and the answers worked out there the mystery will never be seen. Ickes new book is called the Percepction deception and it,s very true as it,s all a mind game which the psychopaths know and trick the masses into perceiving, there for creating what is best for them. And ive heard that the tale of the evil magician is featured in Ickes new book,The Perception Deception. Its also like the wave and partical. What is it, one or the other or could it be the same nothing manifesting as both. So it,s right i would agree not to agree the the actions of all, and to do what is felt right from our present view point.

      2. I think your response was really HARSH, judgmental and uncalled for, frankly. Where's the love? All this bashing where does it get us? Just more of the same ole shit! What? No one is allowed their own opinion if is does not agree with yours? Who is being conscienceless now? Have you ever thought just maybe that we the people just might all be in different places and are just trying to figure it out and are trying to come to terms to the chaos we are ALL F*****g facing. Maybe a little empathy towards others, is certainly a stance against psychopathy!

        1. I'm sorry you feel that way Pam. It's not about "bashing" it's about trying to get to the truth of the matter. If you can't handle the truth, and wish to indulge yourself in "your truth", then that is your choice. People being in "different" places may also mean that people are on the wrong path, being lied to and manipulated.

          1. There is no doubt that people are being lied to and manipulated. You and I at some point were manipulated as well. But I did not see the "light" because someone was mean and cruel to me. I think the point is to expose people to the truth in a way that opens possibilities, not closes them down. Otherwise we are using the same hate tactics as the manipulators. How does that make us more on the correct path? Just thinking…

          2. . . . and of course, you KNOW the Truth and can point out where others (i.e. the sheep in the parable – not a lion like you) have failed to see the light.
            Vanity of Vanities, etc.

          3. Well Alan, I'm trying to get there by using critical thinking rather than falling into wishful thinking and what I would LIKE to be true. How 'bout you?

  3. Well written Joe, succinct and to the point, expressing my own viewpoint in a way that I will quote in the future. As a Shamanic Practitioner that spend a decade in apprenticeship, I know and teach the value of spiritual practices that may help one develop faculties to be preceptive of oneself and ones environment and fellow creatures. I frequently experience people who like to attend ceremonious shamanic occasions, and when suitably entertained they feel they have been spiritualised… just like going to a church…

      1. Depends where you are positioned Joe, the rich have got richer, the poor have got poorer, we have higher emigration than in the famine times, and they refuse to stop putting fluoride in the water. Personally I've always been outside the system, but connected via Nature and as you probably know this Land sings, just few stay still long enough to hear Her. I wouldn't be anywhere else in the world, I travel and I love returning. But having said that I feel at home anywhere on this planet. Hope you had a good Solstice and a Happy Christmas and a Merry New Year to you and yours. http://alexduffy.net/

  4. I think that there is an aspect of the Gurdjieff story that is often missed, and to our detriment. Many of us think of ourselves as "magicians" and "enlightened ones" and presume to teach others, when we are still only hypnotized sheep ourselves, faithfully going through the motions as instructed, though there indeed may be different instructions for different sheep. How can we know? What does it mean to be "awake" and how can we tell the difference?

  5. There is a very important difference between Gurdjieff and David Icke. Gurdjieff was showing a relatively few people how to escape the situation they found themselves in. Finding the truth was paramount. On the other hand David Icke has as a primary objective of pointing out that the world is run by psychopaths, even Satan worshipers, and wants to remove them from power and make the planet a much nicer place for people to live on. Gurdjieff's ideas are much bigger but never made the claim that many could succeed. If he was right then the new agers are wrong, simple as that.

By the way, the magician's story above is not the original, it has been re-hashed and in the process some of its meaning has been lost. For instance, the magician was mean, that's why he used hypnosis rather than force ( just building a big wall ) as it was much cheaper. This is an important point, if someone is confined by force they know it whereas with hypnosis they don't.

  6. I think David Icke is sharing profound knowledge. And, Jo Quinn has a valid point regarding our evolution into higher states of consciousness / raising our vibration. I also believe our human forms were created by Satan (I am not religious) and were deliberately created to keep us from knowing truth. We are psychically deaf and blind. We should be able to interact with other dimensions. The only way this is possible is to open our third eye or leave our bodies. So how do we do this without leaving our bodies in death? This is what needs to be taught by the spiritual teachers on this planet. And in a non-religious way. I like what Jo Quinn says about working on self. I feel this is one of the keys to achieving higher states of consciousness. Also, being ware. Aware of thoughts, reactions, ego, pain body and any emptions that can bring your vibration down. We weren't created with an instruction book on how to achieve higher states of consciousness and even if there was one, we're not programed to be in a state of perpetual love, kindness & compassion. For people like David Icke to say this is what we are and connect to it like it's right there for the taking is not truth even in the non-physical astral. I know first hand, because I get attacked by limited thinkers in the astral realm because I speak of things they do not agree with (unloving spirits). I know no one in a body and have heard of no one in the astral, that has achieved this level of consciousness. We have to re-program ourselves to be in perpetual love, compassion and kindness to ALL living things. And this takes constant work to stay there while we are in these human forms. It's worth the work and I encourage you to do it. Don't worry if you do not become like the Dali Lama. Just improving 10% is amazing. And stay away from all forms of alcohol and recreational drugs. It makes a huge difference on getting to where you want.
    Blessings
